Calliope Auditions: Gilligan's Island, The Musical

Gilligan’s Island, The Musical is a family-friendly musical based on the popular iconic 1960’s TV comedy show “Gilligan’s Island.” It’s fun, wacky, and entertaining - with 18 original, tuneful, and memorable songs.

Synopsis: Shipwrecked on a remote island in the Pacific Ocean when their sightseeing boat, the S.S. Minnow, is destroyed in a storm. Having no means of communication with the rest of the world, seven castaways adjust to their surroundings and try to figure out how to get rescued. Along the way, they discover ancient hieroglyphics, survive a massive hurricane, and have an encounter with an extra-terrestrial being.

    The Characters

Note: The seven castaways ideally should bear some physical similarity to the cast members in the original “Gilligan’s Island” TV series.

Gilligan – (Male. Age Range: 20 to 40) The well-meaning but bumbling and not too bright First Mate of the S.S. Minnow. He continually and inadvertently messes up the castaways’ attempts to be rescued.

The Skipper – (Male. Age Range 50 to 60+) The Captain of the S.S. Minnow. He is quite overweight, which makes him the butt of “fat” jokes made by Gilligan. He feels responsible for the shipwreck but blames Gilligan for it anyway.

The Professor – (Male. Age Range: 40 to 50+) A science teacher with multiple degrees who uses his vast knowledge to help the group survive. He always has a logical explanation for everything, and he is obsessed with trying to get the castaways rescued.

Thurston Howell III – (Male. Age Range: 50 to 65) A millionaire who is used to living luxuriously and not doing any work. He is self-centered and very set in his ways, and he is always looking for easy schemes to make more money.

Mrs. Howell – (Female. Age Range: 50 to 65) Thurston’s wife. She is more spoiled than her husband, but she is less aloof and more open to trying new things.

Ginger – (Female. Age Range: 20 to 40) A glamorous Hollywood actress who uses her good looks to get her way with men and often recites monologues from movies she has been in to ease tensions.

Mary Ann – (Female. Age Range: 20 to 30) A country farm girl from the Midwest who is the stereotypical “girl next door.” She appears to have a slight crush on Gilligan.

The Alien – (Any Gender. Age Range: Late Teens to 50+) A visitor from Outer Space who comes to Earth to warn humans to change their ways.
